Diogenes – it is this ancient Greek and pre-Socratic philosopher that the charming maisonette apartment with its typical, Amalfi-style cupola ceiling in the heart of Conca dei Marini is dedicated to. It is only a few kilometers from there to Amalfi.
During your stay, you will 'meet' Diogenes more than once – in the books of the well-known Italian author Luciano De Crescenzo. Paola, his daughter, and Raffaele, her husband, have not only turned once deserted Casetta di Diogene into a real gem, they have also furnished it with a lot of papa Luciano’s writings.
So, settle back into the chair in the apartment’s gallery, enjoy the view of the deep blue in front of your window and then dive into the life and teachings of Diogenes & Co.
It is truly a bella vista – a heavenly view – that awaits you a few steps below the apartment, in your private outdoor area with lots of green and lots of sea view. The lovely and partly roofed terrace is furnished with sunbeds, a table and chairs as well as an outdoor shower.
The inside of Casetta di Diogene can be described as small, fine and quite individual in design and layout. The gallery was installed to gain more space and to separate the sleeping and living areas.
A narrow spiral staircase takes you up to the gallery with double bed and air conditioning (warm/cold). In the gallery, Paola has also arranged a small reading corner with comfortable chair, book shelf and reading lamp. We recommend you linger there for a while and be it just for the beautiful view of the sea.
The apartment’s living area has been designed with style and with a love for many a small detail. It is furnished, amongst others, with sofa bed, wardrobe, TV, WLAN, dining furniture and kitchenette. The kitchenette’s worktop and range hood are hand-crafted and made of a modern kind of cement. They contrast with the bright, high walls and catch your eye immediately.
The kitchenette includes refrigerator, gas stove, small oven and, of course, crockery from Vietri sul Mare. The old wooden table fits well with the apartment’s modern ambience. Beautiful and a delight to behold right in the morning when sipping your cup of coffee – the view of the sea and of Conca’s church, which is built onto a rock face.
In the bathroom below the sleeping gallery, the recess in form of a pointed arch above WC and bidet and the striking tiles are quite remarkable. Although the bathroom of Diogene is small, there is also a masonry shower as well as a washing machine.
…is the title of one of De Crescenzo’s books. And, this could be the motto for your holidays at Casa di Diogene. Given the terrific coastal landscape between Positano and Vietri sul Mare, you will not be short of experiencing moments of joy and of being wowed.
It is considered a great convenience by some, a physical challenge by others – the way to the beach of Conca dei Marini, which you can walk to along idyllic stepped paths (ca. 600 steps).
Parking: Public parking is available along the road, ca. 100 m above the holiday apartment. A long-term parking permit for public parking spaces is provided by the owners.
A shopping facility, bars, restaurant La Bontà del Capo and trattoria-pizzeria La Piazza are within an easy walking distance of 300 m. At Bontà del Capo you can take part in a guided Lemon Tour (not on Sundays) and 'dive into' the culinary traditions of your holiday region.
Should you want to make do completely or partly without car, then we have got a tip for you: There is a scooter and bike rental in Via Roma. The vehicles can also be rented by the hour. The towns of Amalfi, Positano, Praiano, Ravello and Sorrento are easy to reach by using the public means of transportation.
