On the eastern border of the world-famous Amalfi coast, hidden in the green hills of Monti Lattari, and with a view of the deep blue Mediterranean Sea, lies the small town of Albori, almost forgotten, so it seems, by the outside world.
Time has not stood still here, but it does seem to pass more slowly than in other places.
Instead of swanky SUVs, old Fiat Pandas and powered three-wheeled Apes motor through the alleys. In the car-free village center, small houses in vivid colors pile up in winding terraced alleys.
Albori counts among the "borghi più belli d'Italia" – the most beautiful places in Italy, and rightly so.
On the outskirts of this peaceful village, lies tranquil holiday apartment La Casa di Greta. It was named for the friendly owner’s granddaughter.
La Casa di Greta is surrounded by a large garden with vegetable patches, fig and olive trees and various herbs spreading a spicy aroma. All those who wish for peaceful and relaxing holidays, somewhat apart from the hustle and bustle of the Amalfi coast, will find this to be the ideal holiday accommodation.
The apartment is ideal for two persons.
The bedroom with sea view includes a double bed, a wardrobe, a small chest of drawers and TV.
The cozy kitchen-living-dining room is furnished with a couch and SAT-TV as well as a dining table. The kitchenette is equipped with 4-burner gas stove, oven and refrigerator with freezer compartment.
The bathroom is furnished with shower cabin, WC, bidet and washing machine.
Besides holiday apartment La Casa di Greta, the building houses holiday apartment Primo Sole as well as the owners’ apartment. However, each apartment has its separate and private outdoor area.
The large garden is used by all the residents. The outdoor area of this holiday apartment is a lovely terrace with garden furniture and sun shade and a magnificent view of both Albori and the sea.
There are two sun loungers for sun worshippers.
La Casa di Greta includes washing machine, SAT-TV, sun shade and iron as well as ironing board.
As the medieval center of Albori is off limits to cars, you have to park your car in the public parking lot just outside the village, about 180 m from the holiday apartment.
Although the apartment lies surrounded by green and somewhat apart from the village, the main square of Albori with the church of Santa Margherita is only 500 m off.
For a small in-between snack, we recommend Bruschetteria „Pub Albori“, a mere 300 m off. At the Agriturismo about 500 m off, you can enjoy a very good evening meal.
Small grocery stores are to be found at the neighboring town of Raito, ca. 800 m off.
It is 3 km to the nearest sandy beach which can also be reached on foot via a stepped path.
There is no way around Salerno. This was the case as early as the times of the Etruscans, who profited from its convenient location for their trade. As a Roman colony, the seaside town developed into a significant cultural and economic center. However, the town’s period of prosperity lay in the Middle Ages, first under Lombard rule. What you should absolutely not miss out on visiting is the cathedral of San Matteo, consecrated by Pope Gregory VII and one of Southern Italy’s most significant Romanesque churches. This magnificent church was built when Salerno became the capital of the Norman Duchy of Apulia, which at the time included the whole of southern Italy. To get a view of the city, you should 'climb' the 263 m to the top of Monte Bonadies where you also find Castello di Arechi. Furthermore, there are various interesting museums, e.g. Museo della Scuola Medica Salernitana, which are worth a visit.
Those who wish to avoid driving along the winding coastal road, can use the well organized public transport system.
