Shining, bright yellow lemons – they are, more than any other fruit, the symbol of the Amalfi Coast and they are even IGP registered (Indicazione Geografica Protetta).
Fiorenzo Oliveto, cook and owner of Restaurant Le Bontà del Capo at beautiful Conca dei Marini, takes you on a culinary tour into the world of the lemon, which starts with harvesting and ends with sorbet and home-made limoncello.

Those who have been to the Amalfi Coast surely know what we are talking about. Lemon orchards spread out over the steep slopes. Wherever there is a bit of space along the narrow and winding coastal road, you find three-wheeled Apes loaded with large and shiny yellow lemons, which are offered for sale.
A visit to any restaurant between Sorrento and Vietri sul Mare is topped off by the 'obligatory' limoncello. That is what Amalfitan tradition calls for, but might be called for even more – and with a wink in their eyes – by the charming and proud hosts, because the digestif offered is in most cases home-made.
No matter where, no matter when, no matter how – Amalfi cuisine simply does not go without the lemon, this juicy fruit rich in vitamins. Fiorenzo from restaurant Le Bontà del Capo shows us that there is much more to lemons apart from the fact that they can be turned into high-proof limoncello.
His Lemon Tour at Conca dei Marini takes you from the lemon orchard right into the kitchen, where he creates a local three-course menu based on lemons.
Fiorenzo, whom everyone simply calls „Fiore“, first takes the tour participants through his lemon orchard, which is accessible via 60 steps and where the main ingredient of your lunch or dinner is found.
If you pick the knobbly-skinned Amalfi lemon right from the tree, the fragrance is almost intoxicating, which in itself is worth the walk to the lemon orchard. With the so-called „gold of Amalfi“ in your pockets, off you go to the restaurant and straight to work.
The first thing to do is „sbucciare“, to peel the lemons, in order to make a delicious limoncello aperitif from the flavorful lemon zest. The local citrus fruit also adds a finishing touch to the antipasto, an octopus carpaccio.
The ravioli with ricotta and lemon or with fish and citrus fruit, which follow, are, of course, formed and filled by hand. And we can tell you here and now: they taste marvelously fresh and delicious!
Fresh-caught fish made in the oven with lemon potatoes is served as „secondo“; the Lemon Tour is topped off by either a „Delizia al Limone“ (small tartlet with a lot of lemon cream) or a lemon sorbet and, of course and last but not least, a glass of limoncello. The latter is of course home-made (by the participants)! Cin Cin!
