Built in 1870 and the first hotel in the town of Praiano at the Amalfi coast, the building with its view of the medieval Saracen tower used to accommodate princes and kings who gathered here for several weeks per year to go fowling or fishing.
Later on, from 1920 to 1950, the coast was the setting of famous motion pictures. At Praiano, scenes were shot for „L’amore – Il Miracolo“ starring Anna Magnani and „Consuelita“ starring Francesca Bertini. The successful director Roberto Rossellini and his actors put up at this hotel during the shooting.
Now, family Milo, owner of the neighbouring accommodation Locanda Costa Diva, has given new splendour to this hotel rich in history near the Saracen tower.
Without destroying the valuable frescoes and the high cupola ceilings of the rooms, the building has been restored and renamed „Torre Saracena“.
Every corner within these historic walls reflects a love for detail. Without the family’s strong bonds, this composition of cosy atmosphere and history would never have been achieved. Those who spend their holidays here will experience not only a fascinating landscape, Italian atmosphere and a touch of history, but also hospitality of a kind not easily found.
The manifold splendour of flowers and plants in the garden radiates all kinds of colours, making a stay at Torre Saracena an unforgettable experience for your senses.
Rooms (all with sea view terrace and WIFI):
The altogether 19 rooms are made up of 6 superior and 13 standard rooms.
The spacious superior accommodations are located in the main building, the „casa principale“, and offer air conditioning, mini bar, Sat-TV, telephone and hair dryer. The bathroom is equipped with shower, bidet and WC.
On the large private terrace, your view opens upon the deep blue sea and the Saracen tower and you are coddled by the sun all day long.
Dive into bygone times and feel taken back to the elegant society of those times. The impressive cupola ceilings as well as the original paintings on the walls and the ceilings, depicting hunting and fishing scenes, have been preserved up to this day.
The charming standard rooms are not located within the main building, but in a terraced garden. Each one offers air conditioning, mini bar, Sat-TV, telephone and hair dryer. Relax on the small terrace while reading, surrounded by palm trees and Mediterranean vegetation. Or let your eyes roam over the southern Italian sea and inhale the fragrance of lemons while a slight breeze makes the heat a little kinder.
In this fantastic panoramic hillside location and in the midst of Mediterranean vegetation, you will spend days of relaxation far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Board (breakfast or half board):
The accommodation lives up to its name. Not only do the rooms offer a view of the nearby round signal tower, but the elevated breakfast room, too, offers a view of the coast, the sea and directly in front the Saracen tower.
If you have booked half board, you will enjoy the excellent Italian cuisine of the owner seeview restaurant in Furore (shuttle-Service).
Torre Saracena has its private access of the sea with a bathing area which is accessible via stairs – ideal for enthusiastic swimmers, but also for those who want to take a short refreshing plunge only.
After such welcome refreshment, above all on hot days, you can relax and take a sunbath on the loungers provided on the small plateau and on the terraced premises. Those who love adventure and explorers will enjoy the nearby cave, its entrance only a few metres from the hotel’s access to the sea and stretching about 30 metres into the rock’s interior, where you will also find a natural resting place.
The town of Praiano, which has preserved a touch of its authenticity and has remained untouched by mass tourism, offers a variety of possibilities of spending your days at the Amalfi coast not only idling about and sunbathing.
For those who love to hike: From Praiano, there is a well-marked path which meets with one of the most spectacular high-level hiking trails at the Amalfi coast, „Sentiero degli Dei“, the „Path of Gods“.
Get to know typical Italian village life while strolling through the winding alleys and across the squares of Praiano and the neighbouring town of Vettica Mare.
Only a stone’s throw from Praiano, you will find beauties of nature like Fiordo del Furore, a natural harbour and the setting of numerous films by Roberto Rossellini.
Grotta dello Smeraldo – a sea grotto near Conca dei Marini – is fascinating due to its spectacular stalagmite formations.
For day trips, we recommend visiting such highlights at the Amalfi coast like the Isle of Capri or, on the mainland, the towns of Amalfi, Pompeii and Sorrento.
You can park your car in the hotel’s private parking lot.
