Casa Vecchia, the „old house“, bears its name with reason and with dignity. The tasteful apartment with beautiful sea view terrace in Albori belongs to a well-known Italian family of intellectuals.
“Se voi sapeste quante storie potrebbe raccontare questa casa” – “If you knew how many stories this house could tell”: It was with these words that the friendly caretaker of Casa Vecchia welcomed us. And, of course, we wanted to hear those stories.
The house dates from the 17th century. It is found amidst the car-free terraced alleys in the “centro storico” of Albori, which counts among Italy’s most beautiful villages. Better than words could, the typical cupola ceilings, up to 3.50 m in height, original flooring and antique furniture as well as quite a number of books tell you about the history of the house.
At Casa Vecchia you do not only dive into a fascinating past. You can spend real “vacanze mediterranee” and enjoy outdoor life to the full there. The terrace running the length of the house is greened with rich potted plants, the deep blue sea lies at your feet.
Part of the terrace is roofed. Seated around the beautiful mosaic table, you can spend a pleasant time dining together. On the deck chairs in the rear part of the sea view terrace you can relax and take a sunbath or enjoy your holiday read.
Your accommodation is located on the first floor of the building, whose hillside location, however, provides level access to the apartment.
The tasteful entry area lets you right into the living room of the apartment. Its beautiful flooring dates from the 17th century, the woodstove and fine furnishing make for an elegant and at the same time cozy atmosphere in this room. The French balcony facing the piazzetta and the door opening onto the terrace add an air of brightness and friendliness.
Casa Vecchia has two 'normal' bedrooms. In the reading-and-lounge room between the two bedrooms a sofa bed provides sleeping accommodation for a 5th person. Each of these three rooms offers a view of the sea and direct access of the terrace.
One of the bedrooms is furnished with a double bed. The set of book shelves, old family photos and the writing table add to the special charm of the room. The second bedroom has twin beds, which can be rearranged to form a double, and includes a small en suite bathroom with shower and WC.
The second bathroom of Casa Vecchia, which features masonry shower cabin, WC, bidet and washing machine, is accessible from the hallway.
The eat-in kitchen of your Amalfi Coast accommodation with its high cupola ceiling, its original 18th century tiles, its showcase and its French balcony facing the piazza may be small, but it is charming. Of course, it offers everything you need to prepare your holiday meals and includes, amongst others, gas stove, oven, refrigerator with freezer compartment and water boiler.
At Casa Vecchia WiFi access is available for a fee of 10 EUR per week.
You cannot drive your car all the way up to Casa Vecchia. Public parking spaces are found outside the village center (along the road or in the small piazza, which the access road to Albori leads to and where it ends).
A reserved and lockable parking space near that piazza is available for a fee of 10 EUR/day.
If you spend your holidays at Albori, you spend them at one of Italy’s most beautiful villages. In the Campania region, only 11 villages belong to the 'club' of the "Borghi più belli d'Italia". At contemplative Albori, you have got the chance to get to know the original, rural face of the Amalfi Coast.
Those who love hiking can start on tours into the mountains and along the coast right from Casa Vecchia. Amid local everyday life, the observant traveler, by and by, gains some insight into the soul of “Bella Italia”.
The inhabitants know and greet each other, they walk through the alleys and archways without hurry. Clotheslines are tied between your own window and your neighbor’s across the alley, fragrant basil is grown in pots in front of the doors, small statues of the Virgin Mary are lovingly decorated and children are, as a matter of course, picked up from school by their “nonno”, their grandfather.
Café-bars, a bruschetteria and the recommendable restaurant of the local Agriturismo are about 100 m from the apartment. Grocery stores are found in the neighboring town of Raito, ca. 800 m off.
It is only about three kilometers to the nearest sandy beach, which you can also walk to along a stepped path. For the way back we recommend using the well-organized means of public transportation. Please note that the last bus to Albori runs at ca. 8 pm.
