Sunshine village at Capo Sottile
Located in the east of Capo Sottile, the southern foothills of Monte S. Angelo a Tre Pizzi, Praiano is one of the places at the Amalfi coast which is most blessed by sunshine. Its houses are scattered above and below the coastal road and they are surrounded by terraced lemon gardens.
Praiano, also called the „white village“, covers a difference in altitude of altogether one hundred metres and 'flows' neatly into the neighbouring village of Vettica Maggiore. The doges of Amalfi were already enchanted by the beauty of the coastal village and put up their summer residences there. Besides, it used to be renowned for its production of silk and yarn. Nowadays, the village, which has been spared mass tourism, attracts you with picturesque sunsets and wonderful views of the Costiera.

The wonderful majolica cupola of the church of S. Gennaro in the neighbouring village of Vettica Maggiore is visible from afar, its interior offers very well preserved decorations.
At the centre of Praiano lies the parish church of S. Luca dating from the 16th century and adorned with a majolica floor; numerous paintings by the artist Giovanni Bernardo Lama can be admired there.
In the eastern districts of Praiano, at the end of a deep gorge, lies the idyllic fishing settlement of Marina di Praia. You can have fun at the beautiful beach or enjoy the inviting fish restaurants. You can also take part in boat excursions if you want to get to know the nearby coastal area with its impressive grottos „Grotte di Suppraiano“ and „Grotta dell’Africana“.
